Hmmmmm, very promising indeed.
On one hand: I'm an Ubuntu maniac and the ONLY reason I have Win 7 istalled on my PC is FSX. And now, there is a flightsim that runs under linux and it's 64bit + there is a pretty nice donationware NZ mesh/landclass for it + all my favorite planes available as high-standard payware addons (ie DC-3, Saab 340, etc)... It should be a no-brainer for me really...
BUT...
On the other hand: I've spent over 5 years thinkering with MSFS, and testing all those addons. As a result, I have THE PERFECT SIM (perfect for me) with a constant 30fps, with billions of addons for a high level of immersion (REX, FScaptain, OPUS, MCE, PanelBuilder 2 and the list goes on). The bill is well over 5k...
Now, the real problem is my attitude. I generally can't really commit to multiple things in the same time. It's either this or that... So multiboot is not really an option for me.
To complicate it even further I just finished building a simpit that's optimized for FSX and its addons...
Sigh....So i wait until X-plane can provide the same amount of "services", either built-in or using addons...
This post might not add much value to this topic, but I believe most of you can relate to it in some way, so I thought it might worth sharing after all.

Dial in some really nasty weather in X-Plane 10, turn up your speakers (and sub-woofer) and you will jump when a lighting bolt hits anywhere near you!

Love X-Plane 10 weather.

It's an interesting thing xplane 10.
It's obviously different from FSX and I know that puts a lot of people off. Different keys, different ways of doing things, different aircraft that may or may not be up to the same quality of the ones you are used to.
It has some very good points like much better use of hardware so framerates are a lot better than FSX, graphics can be nicer and I am sure some have heard how it's night flying is a lot nicer than fsx.
Then there is the scenery that really lets it down for a lot of people. Unless you find some downloadable scenery for the area you want to fly in then you are always flying in autogenerated scenery without area specific landmarks etc - except for the demo seattle area.
It can feel like a nice sim depending what you want it for. If you had the purchase price easily disposable and like your sims then it's worth giving it a go. You may have to use it for a little while to get used to it. If you dont like it at first it will probably grow on you after using it for a while. Weather it grows on you enough is another thing. I find myself using it sometimes along with other sims. I am not a one sim rules all guy.
Default planes are not excellent if you are used to reasonable fsx payware. ATC and AI suck but if you use online ATC then you are good to go.
There is a demo but I think it really limits your ability to give it a go.
One annoyance I have it is that you cannot open up a panel and drag it somewhere, e.g. a radio stack. It doesnt support that!
