Not having done any development work on software, I was wondering about solving a problem.

I would like to use the Pro Line 21 glass cockpit on a King Air. Thing is, the panels I can purchase still use the individual Collins style Nav/Comm system, not the all in one Nav/Com controller found on actual King Air. I have found the system I want on the WILCO - PIAGGIO P180 AVANTI II FSX and Eaglesoft Cessna Citation aircraft, but I just want to put the Avionics system of those aircraft in a King Air. How hard would this be? I would clearly be purchasing the aircraft and will not be on selling or distributing anything I do.

So you want to put gauges from another model - or MFD , you can make a 2D panel for the type you want but its not as simple , trading gauges or display unit into a 3D , cant be done unless the model can be broken apart and then required to rebuild then required to recode the details you want ...lotta work required .

EDIT , sorry thought ment a software made cockpit , your Proflights are hardware , USB bus ports - desktop cockpit ?

Sorry, I forgot to say. All 2D graphics, no hardware, but would probably use touch screens.

Try using FSpanel studio. I have used it to swap gauges and it works well. Of course it depends on the gauges you use. Great for 2D panels but limited in a VC due the the fact that a VC is usually part of the model file.
What you would do is delete the gauges that you dont want in your panel and then copy and paste the gauges from the donor panel into it. You can move them around and resize as you please. Each time you save the panel a back up is made so it is very easy to go back any number of steps.
It has a free demo you you could try that and see if it does what you want it to. You cannot save the pane but it will show you if it is possible to do what you want to do.

Thanks for advice so far. Just would like to clear up a couple of things. I'd like to use existing King Air on FSX but use Pro Line 21 glass cockpit with the single nav/com tuning panel as 2D screens. While physical knobs/controllers could be considered, I was thinking of just using touch screens for interfacing.

The Avanti, as seen here Avanti has the avionics I want, I just want to put the glass cockpit portion of it in the King Air using a system a bit like this: GCT.

The Carendo has PART of what I want, except it uses individual Collins radios. Carendo

As for editing cockpits, I found when I tried to change the Cessna Citation cockpit to feature a co-pilot, I found their product wasn't easily changed.

As a guess, it should be possible but it really is hard to know without experimenting due to the fact that high-end addon aircraft sometimes bypass standard instrument/input functions and/or calculate things in an external program connected via simconnect

However this line on the p180 page is a good sign: "Beautifully rendered, 2D pop-ups for all glass cockpit arrays, radios and autopilot, FMC, engine controls and pilots’ panels" since that overcomes a potential issue of not being able to control the gauge logic without the hotzones built into the VC model. Hopefully because they provide 2D gauges, it should just be a case of calling them on the Kingair panel....but....hard to know for sure.

Thanks Timmo. There is also this one: Cessna. Looks quite similar. I wouldn't mind getting my hands on a physical controller for the PFD's as a touch screen is great for buttons, but not knobs.
