IPad and FSX

A place to converse about the general aspects of flight simulation in New Zealand

There is an interesting App for Ipad called Air Display. This enables the Ipad to be part of the desktop of the main computer. In fact if you have two displays connected to the video card this gives you a third display. I use Windows XP for my flight sim so it is not just for Mac computers.

It is great to use for the CDU in a Boeing 737 like the Wilco PIC which is button intensive and provides a realistic means of entering data. It is also good for the GPS in GA aircraft. There is no perceptible lag and the only downside is the flight sim has to be used in a window. You set it up using a 2d panel undock say the CDU and drag it to the Ipad and resize the CDU to suit. You can then switch to a 3d panel and the CDU stays unaltered in the Ipad. There is a slight hit on frame rates but this may not be noticeable in a modern multi thread computer.

It is an interesting use of the Ipad and there are probably many other uses that Ipad owners can develop for Flight sim.

Or from Dell. I like fiddling with computer gear and it is an interesting other use for the Ipad. A third display is also handy! Windows XP also does not support touch screens.
