Blocked from AVSIM :(

Postby cowpatz » Thu Jul 16, 2015 5:55 pm

As if the snails pace speed of the AVSIM site is not bad enough I have now been blocked from logging in!

I get the following:
/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

You have been blocked from entering AVSIM!

You have been blocked based on our firewall and security system rules.

This may have been caused by one or more of the following reasons:

Your email address may contain too many digits; this is translated by our systems as be a spam address
Someone in your organization may have a PC infected with botnet program and using the same IP that is blocked
You may be utilizing a dynamic IP address which was previously utilized by a known spammer (such as a cell "node" with a known bad IP)
You or your organization"s marketing department may be sending out bulk emails that do not comply with the CAN-SPAM Act
You may have an unsecured wireless network which is allowing unknown users to use your network to send spam
Content submitted by you may have been classified as "malicious" at other locations using the same protection services we do
Your country has been blacklisted by us (this includes IP"s that do not have a country lookup provided, i.e., TOR Networks - we do not allow anonymous access)
Your hosting service is a known source of spam
Your IP, user name, email address or nickname may have been previously banned by AVSIM and you continue to be banned here
You are a known pirate
In some rare cases, being blocked may result from a "false positive" by our various services, although this is extremely rare

These measures are in place to increase the safety of AVSIM and to keep it clean and risk free for our valued members.

If you think you may have been blocked by mistake, you can lookup your IP and email address in the various spam prevention systems, and appeal the them or follow their IP release procedures.

////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

It's funy because I thought I was a valued member of AVSIM....obviously not.
Of the many Spam prevention services my IP address appears in 4 of them, but 2 of them are the same organisation and 1 of them relates to ihug which I have not used for over 6 plus years.
When looking at them in detail it relates to mail servers and not a casual account. Could it be a Vodafone thing?
I subscribe to and log onto many forums and have not been blocked from any of them.
On Tuesday I checked all the PCs and devices
2 PCs
3 laptops
2 tablets
4 phones
None of them were infected with anything of consequence.
Data use is normal and does not suggest a mass mail out spamming system.

I is a bit like being on a cyber version of a Baycorp credit blacklist (try getting out of that).

Probably AVSIM over-reacting to the great HACK.

Sounds like their system is a bit over-zealous.... but you might just have to contact them about it.

This week I discovered that the 'subscription' addon for my subscription site has a very tough system to prevent account-sharing, which was locking out a legitimate subscriber. Embarrassing, but easily tweaked once I knew.

Yes it seems that AVSIM depend upon these 3rd party sites for deciding on who to block.
From their blurb it seems that it is up to me to clear it with the spam filter sites. I can't see that working well given what I have read on each of their sites.
I will give it a try all the same.

I believe Tom Allensworth used to do screening manually!
Well, those days are over now.
Be interesting to see where AVSIM goes without the founding father.

My Log-in works OK on Avsim, (been with them since 2005), using my Pale Moon (Firefox) Browser.

...same goes for Flightsim...

With SO many possible reasons how can anyone hope to restore their login??!

That's madness. But then I gather AVSIM has a reputation for a reason.

I think its the same with any forum , good thing this we do have some very trusting people ... It will be good to find out who is going to step into his shoes , good thing is , they certainly have the backing of the millions, so maybe a glitch .. guess the best way off putting it.

I have the library login page bookmarked in PaleMoon. I don't look at the front page or the forum, at Avsim, or the forum at Flightsim. Too many silly requests from people who are too lazy to search the forum before asking someone else to do it for them.
This is the Avsim library login page: http://library.avsim.net/login.php?Location=%2F

You're kidding right? I thought AVSIM is based in the USA not North Korea.
That is quite appalling.

Great little 'Pic' ... I'm almost thinking off 'Team America - truck yeah! ' .. or better still 'Jet Pilot' John Wayne and Janet Leigh , her antics in the later stage off the movie ... "to adjust the seat - just pull this leaver"

Good on ya Paul :) , most off the problems occurred after the serious hacks , strange many large outfits like example PMDG use it as a go between, you then get the disgruntled twits who muck it for everyone else, I'd be very sure this is not isolated.

Hehe, just found out you get the message that you are a spammer if you run afoul of a moderator as well :P . Oh well, one can always get around their systems some way or another if you really want to. I have no need to, it's a bit of a depressing place with some of those 'policies'.
