VATSIM ATC controllers

A place to converse about the general aspects of flight simulation in New Zealand

Postby zk2704 » Mon Oct 06, 2014 9:11 pm

Is anyone here on NZFF an ATC on the VATSIM network?

Because I am interested in hearing more about it and I am interested to join the VATSIM network as ATC.

Any info is appreciated

Zain.

Hey Zain. Just head over to VATNZ, sign in to their forums, and ask away. LOADS of experience over there and a good mentoring program.
Go for gold dude.

I used to fly virtual Air New Zealand on VATSIM for about 2 years. It's a very friendly and helpful bunch, helped a lot with my mic-shyness smile.gif
On the other hand live ATC was only available on Sundays which killed it for me.

Yeah it is mostly Sundays in NZ that's true. For pilots there are however at least two regular evenings in Aussie, Monday milk-runs are a favourite of mine (usually between Sydney and Melbourne) and are always busy. Other than that you can catch some great ATC coverage in Europe and North America (USA mostly) on the weekends, and lots of Asian coverage during the week evenings out time. Only prob with the overseas flying is you really need to learn on your feet, and quickly, re local procedures, geography etc.

Sounds like you're interested in controlling tho Zain and for that you will begin your training in NZ (if that's where you want to control). From what I understand you manage Ground (GND) positions initially then move on up with training to other positions, Deliveries, Tower, Approach etc. Once you are underway you can be online any time that suits you, it's a waiting game then to see who takes the bait and comes to fly in/out of your location.

You will need some patience grasshopper smile.gif

There have been a couple of guys on some week nights for a few hours but I'm usually about to have dinner or something.

I find this the easiest way of looking, just fire up Google Earth.

Thanks for the advice guys, I will be discussing this with my parents so that my privacy doesn't go at risk.
