The same "officials" are said to have noted the following, regarding the Cessna 172: The single propeller has cooling as its primary function. When it stops, pilots are invariably seen to break out in a sweat!

QUOTE (deaneb @ Feb 24 2012,7:45 PM) The F27 at Woodbourne is the ex NZ Post plane which had the accidental wheels up on the ground several years ago. They stripped it of parts and the fuse sat around until the Base Fire guys started to use it for training. It was later painted the RNZAF grey. Cheers Deane....more pieces in the puzzle.

Sometimes you do wonder who really is driving the planes , many call us armchair aviators and may only have a few hours real .. but who do they really get to fly some off these international flights , more off us behind the PC appear to be more skilled ... and me i',m more than willing to do a few laps to prove a point .

Its a good point about the Ashburton Museum , they have a cockpit and crew area open to the general public , this was the Rassberry Ripple Farnbourgh Canbarra with the glazed nose , if you where in combat lining the target manually , you would have to be very small to get out that position and get to the back to grab your shoot ... in other words - survival would probabley the same if not lest than a WWII bomber .

Might be worth noting that the event happened in October 2010. (ie 15 months ago) Also worth noting, Qantaslink plane operated by Cobham airlines, rather than Qantas main line. The relevance to QF pilots, planes etc therefore is a little tenuous. It is a different operation entirely. Different roster, type, etc Qantaslink regional? Perhaps another matter, but it really is a collection of several smaller operators under a common paint-scheme. The operators vary, and the levels of experience and training in regional airlines is a "hot topic" currently. Experience not such an issue...

Teens in court over shining lasers into planes NewstalkZB | 09:11am Wed 08 Feb 2012 There's a call for tougher penalties for those caught pointing lasers at aircraft from the Airline Pilots' Association. Labour MP Iain Lees-Galloway agrees, saying a 12 month prison term or a $10,000 fine is proving an inadequate deterrent. Two Auckland teenagers will appear in court today, charged with shining laser lights into three planes and the police Eagle helicopter. President of the Airline Pilots' Association Glen Kenny says at best they're a distraction, and at worst they can...
