For some lucky to get closer the news, It is amazing the history and how many have disappeared all over New Zealand , this just a fortunate case.

QUOTE (Ian Warren @ Aug 6 2014,11:45 AM) Recall the 1990 Farnbourgh Airshow, the AN124 blows an engine, we get a better display with its little brother the AN22 ripping in with a spear engine .. now that was COOL /smile.gif style= vertical-align:middle emoid= :) border= 0 alt= smile.gif /> That's where I met both the AN-124 and 225 /thumbup1.gif style= vertical-align:middle emoid= border= 0 alt= thumbup1.gif />

QUOTE (deeknow @ Aug 4 2014,8:13 PM) Hey Terry. Have a look over the Flightaware logs, be worth registering if you haven't already. I did a quick scan through the recent history and looks like its a once a week Westbound service, inbound from Honolulu on Sundays at about 4:30pm and outbound to Sydney same day at about 7pm see: Thanks! /thumbup1.gif style= vertical-align:middle emoid= border= 0 alt= thumbup1.gif />

Wish the old Queens at the bar by my bus stop on K' Road would get going /unsure.gif style= vertical-align:middle emoid= border= 0 alt= unsure.gif />

I was at 2 minds as to whether I would watch this as my father was a Manager with Air NZ at the time and I saw a lot of stuff that went on behind the scenes as it were. I did watch the last 30 minutes and found it worth while. I will watch the whole thing one day. Just out of interest, I had the pleasure of sitting on the flight deck on a DC10 from Nadi to Rarotonga 2 months prior to the accident. The captain was Jim Collins and the aircraft was ZK-NZP.

Nice photo Andy, good comparing the size, yellow jackets give a good interpretation of size, one thing I noticed comparing the 767 taxi past after the Chinese 800 at Christchurch early this year.

Pity we didn't get it in the UV blackliight colour at the bottom, much nicer than all black /tongue.gif style= vertical-align:middle emoid= :P border= 0 alt= tongue.gif /> Looks like RW05 is in use at AKL today so there is a good chance this will come right over my house, hopefully low enough to get a photo for ya's, but the weather and cloud base up here is pretty horrendous...

Dumb is a big, big word to throw around in regard to OZ214, significant amount of other factors at play there. MH370.. who knows? It would be news to the rest of the world if you knew of some 'dumb' action taken by the pilots that can be confirmed? As for this incident.... well.... probably not CRM's finest hour.

Arr those Russians .. guess that's what air traffic control is for , come to think, that very thing was created duly and mostly to the Russians almost 80 years back .... "Operation Vittles" it was known back then , oh how times may have changed .
