QUOTE (HamiltonWest @ Jan 7 2015,3:49 PM) Plane crashes into Lake Taupo I'm a bird not a fish, Rick my bro did a tandem last weekend, his first jump ... he was still on a Hi when got around here, not so strangely most hang glider pilots left parachuting for the good ole hang-glider ... some off the stories they can tell.

A typical response from those that do not fully understand aviation. This accident would probably have happened with or without regulation. NZPP is running fine, however there are inherent risks when operating at any airfield that does not have an ATC service.

One dose have to wonder the logic ... or least try to figure out what is in the brain cases of the politicians ... as one well known flyer put it, we have become "the scabs of the Pacific" , look at Australia couple new aircraft carriers , least ideal for littoral warfare, ski ramp equipped getting added to the fleet shortly ... the good ole NZ well what can you say /rolleyes.gif style= vertical-align:middle emoid= border= 0 alt= rolleyes.gif />

QUOTE (Spikehughes @ Dec 12 2014,10:27 PM) He wasn't a young chappie, but a long serving captain... I think he preferred 4 engines to two over such a large expanse of water..regardless of the modern ETOPS peformance allowances. Think the ole saying is the Atlantic is a mill pond compared to the Pacific , we regularly get aircraft tracking over Christchurch from OZ heading to South America .... you find them with the good old human eyeball on a gorgeous day.

cezeta , we (NZ) face more threat from economic attack , as in foreign vessels stealing our fish and other offshore resources . With the plan Naki put forward , we would be able to hold our own for a while in the event of an all out invasion , but i doubt this would ever happen . The emphasis should be on long range maritime surveillance , and the support and training to back it up. And , as a major player in south pacific welfare , an equally capable long range transport component. Regarding a strike force , I'm not sure. Being a maritime nation , i would tend to upgrade the navy with...

QUOTE (deaneb @ Nov 28 2014,9:08 PM) These are a bit advanced for ab-initio training. The Hawk was one of six aircraft shortlisted to replace the Strikemaster, but its cost and the fact it had a capability which almost exceeded the Skyhawk, meant it was dropped. /thumbup1.gif style= vertical-align:middle emoid= border= 0 alt= thumbup1.gif />

QUOTE (chopper_nut @ Nov 27 2014,10:32 PM) I'm with you on this one... Little and the pity the lets get 'Vogue' , the old cheat lines and paints really defined an airline .. the new current was fresh when first shown , but hells I'm already bored with it .. It should have been a mixture with the traditional colours ... keeping some blues and greens in with the mix.

Guys, there will be people willing to try to take over these routes that have been 'suspended', some may have success and others that might only do it for the publicity then close them and move on. Also please note that there are members here that are part of Eagle and are waiting news that affects them more than the people who have had their air service suspended.

Yes the missing man formation really tugs at the ole heart strings.. She was carried out to the musical track "Jump" by Van Halen (I think). An uplifting song and appropriate given her parachute jumping days. A wonderful service for a great family

QUOTE (waka172rg @ Oct 27 2014,9:56 PM) Yeh the good old 500 with a solid head on it /smile.gif style= vertical-align:middle emoid= :) border= 0 alt= smile.gif /> What would happen if your airspeed was just above the dead man's curve? I suppose you have only seconds to react and in a ag turn not much height. Yeh it depends. If your speed is in front of the curve then you should have enough height to perform a 'standard' auto. Most of the time when you're doing 'spray' turns though, your at speed and height combinations that put you in the avoid curve....
