If the aircraft hasnt got much of a payload then they do zoom climb it after takeoff. I see it all the time. The power to weight ratio when its empty is just awesome But why not just derate the thrust and not wear out the engins so fast? Theres no need to get to cruise alt before the end of the SID  btw how often does a 757's engins have to be replaced? Or any large jet for that matter. James

we get to talk with the pilots and to see their operation up close so that we have an understanding of what they are trying to achieve and how they go about doing it when they ask for certain things, it means that we can explain to them in real time what we are trying to achieve and why we can and cannot do some of the things they would like. same with the cockpit famil flights we get , we get to see what they do at certain phases of flight or taxi and answer their questions etc. my last flight was quite a while back on a Qantas b733 cockpit ride CH to AA but didn't have a camera with me....

Hey Matthew, just wondering if these are any different to the Pac-sim ones that we see on VATSIM? And would there be any chance that if I payed to go in one, if I could do it on VATSIM?

Thanks for the link to the pic Dan. The fuselage striping is close to what i remember seeing in my brief glimpse of it over work. I was sure i heard Roll Royce Darts, not Allison Turboprops when it went over, but i could be wrong with all the other noise going on in the building at the time. Maybe i was just being hopefull  The more i think about it, the more i am being convinced that the guys are right about it being a Convair !! Guess i should have just got in my car and gone around the corner to the airport and had a look !! Lawrie.

Yesterday afternoon I could also see a small aircraft doing aerobatics over the Tamaki Estuary- I thought it must have been a model RC plane because it was pulling incredible manoeuvres but I couldn't here its engine sound, and I was looking at it in the distance though binoculars so I couldn't tell its size.

i'm looking forward to learning this stuff, especialy "air law" sounds like an intelligent subject (hmm this will impress other students at school). Its not really... its basically just memorisation of a lot of legalese... <_< However, I really enjoyed Nav, that was fun coz you get to play with maps, rulers and the nav computer ;) Met was kinda interesting too... but thats probably because I enjoyed the 'challenge' of 'decoding' METARs and TAFs etc. I attended a part-time study course at Ardmore Flying School... it ran for something like 8 weeks and was...

Yep Ardmore, is open as usual on that day, however you have to register your intentions with Unicom prior to the start of the day. There is a form on the website. :)
