a 172 can range from 50kts, to 80 kts...... or you can also pull off a highspeed approach which is in the yellow arc untill 200' above the runway (generally done when working ATO's)

They can't be that conservative being the launch customer for the 787-9. You probably can bet on a narrow body Air NZ Airbus fleet though (although Boeing is working on a 737 replacement so you never know).

Does anyone know this aircraft and why it was sitting on the tarmac next to Vincent aviation toady. (was biking to Seatoun so I didn't get any pics) (N2T) I know it's a global express owned by oakley (sunglasses etc - note their logo), the paint represents a world map and thats about it. i was there today too... and i live in seatoun... small world :D EDIT: well after i saw the pic i realised everybody would've figured what i knew out anyway.

Ooooh, a week today! Sooo totally can't wait! I was really gutted at Wanaka when I heard about Dove's engine troubles. It's going to be awesome to have two P-51s in the sky together again. B) Dude, if Arthur and ZK-YYY pass through, please oh please get some pics! I know I'll be spending the weekend drooling over her but still, can't have too much of a good thing!  Looking forward to trying the CaptainSim Yak in her colours today, may just recreate the flight myself.

actually if it's done correctly there should be little or no vectoring - the aircraft will fly the preprogrammed FMS arrival following the preselected profile. its like being on the bottom of the drag curve but read money instead of drag. any deviation away from the optimum profile and up goes the drag/money. We got to see it in action from the fligt deck perspective the other day when I did my B744 simulator famil. ( photos in the next day or so, I have them and just need to shrink the file sizes and post them). it is only ANZ and Qantas at this stage and only heavies.

That's the first of seen of that Viscount, I presume it's only intended for static display, or am I mistaken? Yeah, static only. Was in Ashburton today looking over the freindship, thats static as well. Both aircraft are fully complete with interrior (most of it in the case of the freindship) and complete cockpits.

I imagine there would be a measurable saving in fuel, and less possibilities of snafu's with wrong taxiway/runway exit etc. I have an article in an old Airliner World mag (page 28, Dec 06) about Virgin Atlantic and their clean green policys, and Richard Branson reckons that if all jets switch off their engines while taxing to/from terminal to runway, 25% of the world's aviation emissions could be cut!

Nice shots Trolly - I always find the photos from Ardmore more interesting than the bigger airports because I like the variety and I guess I am more interested in GA and Warbirds anyway. Interesting that ZK-CTG is still around - it brings back memories - I use to fly in that 150 with my dad back in the 70's when it was in the Stratford Aero Club fleet and was painted in red stripes if I remember correctly

ah so she's more of a handful then? Can be in strong winds, she will get away from you if you dont keep your wits about you. Quite a few new pilots dont like flying her.

Not at 15:30 but I did see WAC doing a lot of touch and gos around 13:00-14:00. Also some random comment about false teeth by them to the tower. There were a couple of guys stading on the seawall at about 1530ish with a camera on a tripod. I was takin WAC out to PM. Didnt hear the comments on the radio, that would have been about right though, the instructor on that day is crazy I think ;) I managed to get some photos of the TU154 before I started work today. Ill post them when I get home.
