Lol I too thought it was Auckland on the little snippet prior to the 6pm news. It's amazing how the media dramatise it so much eh, engulfed in flames  I agree, if that is an aircraft catching fire, then my house must catch on fire whenever I have a BBQ. <_<

I'm quite sceptical on this one, its a long way from the g suit to the ejection seat handles. I always thought ejection seats were designed not to be triggered accidently. Could be fake, could be real. Most ejection seats require the pilot to physically pull a lever either between the legs or over the helmet. Its not the sort of thing that can be triggered by a g suit which IRL don't inflate enough to pop the lever between the legs. On another note an AV8B pilots seat fired its chute but not the seat when the pilots oxygen system failed at high altitude. The result was the pilot was...

big coup for Boeing given Virgin's European ties Indeed, I think the A380 issues, along with the A350 fiasco initially may have made a bigger dent in confidence in irbus than first thought.

AA don't operate 4 engine aircraft... heck, 220 passengers is approaching the 787-3's 226 pax 3-class configuration... is this boeing's answer to the A340-600 pencil? Hmm, I love the 737, but not quite this loooooong <_< I guess its an A321 alternative. Boeing delivered the first 900, in the press statement they say.. The 737-900ER will have substantial economic advantages over competing models, including 9 percent lower operating costs per trip and 7 percent lower operating costs per seat, and 565 nautical miles more range than the A321, which is more than 10,000 pounds...

Also-Kelbrun, did ANZ used to fly to the Chathams? Yeah. Air NZ fitted a couple of Fokker's with STOL gear for flights to the Chathams for a while. But the probably pulled out because of lack of demand. (most likely)

would be a shame to see the corsair leave in, i am tied to that and the kitty hawks indirectly, my grandfather was responsible for keeping those birds in the air during the war, he was a flight Sargent in the rnzaf and was a lead mechanic. his friends from the war would tell me stories as a young kid of how my granddad would listen to that big ol radial idle away and he would be able to tell them if it was running rough, lean or slightly out of time, never did get his mechanical skills!!

Our open day was mayhem ... we ended up with ZK-HZN, ZK-HZL, ZK-HZQ and ZK-HLN coming in the first 3 came in 3 minutes apart then Westpac Rescue 1 arrived around 18:00. Hi again Scott! You are based at the Hamilton hospital pad right? As far as I knew, it only has room for a single helo, so how did 4 different choppers park up there?

We will never see 747s and 777 on a regular basis here. The runway is long enough to handle the 777 now. The 747 can get in ok but getting out is a wee bit of a problem. We dont have enough space to park larger aircraft here. The runway is slightly longer, by about 10 metres and it will lengthen at the North end by a little aswell. The TVASIS have 6 fly up and fly down lights and 4 that run perpendicular to to the runway. The PAPIs just have the four lights. The are quite a bit brighter than the VASIS and it is easier to destinguish red from white. Not that it makes that much of a difference...

I also forgot how cramped those Metroliners are (especially for 6'5" tall person like myself).. and to think AirNZ Link operated them once. Better than lying down inside of this one I suppose. I was taking my photos from directly to the left of the metroliner wing and then moved to the right when the BK117 landed.

Just about any kind of sunglasses will be fine but its the old "take em up and try em out" principle at work. Also, avoid glasses that have colour tint. I flew one cross country flight with orange tinted glasses and was wondering why my map didnt have roads on it (the orange tint cancelled out the brown of the roads on the map) :) Finally, as everyone knows, real aviators wear military helmets! :) Seriously, consider getting your own headset as this could affect the types of sunglasses you can wear comfortably.
