I think it is called BBC Standard Received Pronunciation or somesuch. The audio gear of the day called for a slower, clearly enunciated delivery. Of course, having been to the right school also helped.

Sounds about right... last trip Dubai-Akl took the baggage just on a week to emerge. Mind you, people show the same resourcefulness as those early flyers: When Auckland airport flooded earlier in the year, the baggage check-ins went under, and the scales were U/S. Personnel were asked to bring stuff from home, and weigh-in happened on everyone's bathroom scales!
