Add-ons like AIG can put a huge performance hit on airports such as LAX, but you have to try and be sensible and tone down the settings on traffic (framerates can drop to 20-25fps at LAX). Although nice to see it in action, dealing with a busy airports with 50-100 flights all moving about (on the ground and in the sky) is a bit of a nightmare if all you want to do is fly. And, I don't want to spent 30 minutes plus, waiting to take off. Less busy airports like Auckland and Wellington don't suffer from that problem. I haven't invested in any add-on aircraft for MSFS yet (but I did have a lot of...

*DO* figure out the bit about linking GUIDs to letters so you can refer to your USB devices by a letter instead of device number - it's not hard, and it will save you HOURS of frustration when (not if) your computer decides to renumber your devices because they didn't all clock in in the usual order one bootup.

Aye, more than you will ever suspect, Charl. On many of the fora I subscribe to, the split is most usually distributed: 55% FSX, 45% FS9. Admittedly, that's an unscientific analysis, but we're still out there. /cool.gif style= vertical-align:middle emoid= B-) border= 0 alt= cool.gif />

Thanks guys. And yeah Charl the dust is a feature ... I like to call it "weathering" I did give the new build a bit of a dust off when I transferred the innards. Pleased to report a week later now and been using it each day for a few hours at a time and not a single lock-up since  Confident enough now so this morning I did a bunch of cable routing and tidying and closed the case up. Here's the tradesman's entrance ;) And here's the front of house. I used the riser cable and bracket from the old case to flip the GPU vertical as should get better cooling I hope, plus it...

Well, my new laptop even though very powerful will be used for general purposes for me which includes screenshot editing and publishing. I do not think that in view of much superior MS2020, it is worth for me to buy P3Dv5. I plan to buy another separate laptop for use of MS2020 in 2 years or so OR when MS2020 has ALL planes that FSX has especially all historic jet planes whenever comes first. Regards, Aharon

Marty, if it is not in your Recycle Bin, I have a backup of my FSX as was at 2019, including the Awesome Foursome NAC Freighter If those 4 repaints intended for FSX Steam work in FSX Deluxe with SP1 and SP2, can I have those repaints, please? Regards, Aharon

This is the Quad setup with the 'Commercial' levers, for a 4-engine jet or turboprop. Slot one is now for the speed brake and slot six has flaps movement in a range from 0° to 40° down, marked as 1°, 2°, 5°, 10°, 15° etc. The Flaps up/down switch is hidden in the pic by throttles 3 & 4. For the Concorde it is used for the droop snoot function. You can see how the levers are stepped so that they nest together. Throttle lever 1 has a TOGA button on the left.. So, if you just want to set up for a twin, remove levers 2 and 4 and bring throttle 1 across to slot three, to nest with throttle 3....

I got BigBeast II going again this morning, and it has updated to the latest Win10. Apparently the machine does not have what it needs to upgrade to Win 11 (huzzah!!). MS do have a webpage about fixing this reboot loop thing, and I had tried that without success. Last night I tried one last time - power off, unplug, hold the power button down to drain any residual current, then remove the CMOS battery. They say for 30 mins, I left it out all night, and also used a multimeter to check that the battery voltage was well up to the 3.0v mark. It was, so this morn I put the thing back together and...

I thought that I might extend my system life by doing a small upgrade. I replaced the dead Titan with a 1080TI card but of course the bottleneck now (and always has been I guess) is the 4770K CPU. I have looked at a i5-9700K Coffee lake CPU as it uses the same LGA 1151 socket, which I thought I could pick up relatively cheaply being an obsolete CPU. I was blown away to see that they are way more expensive than the Alder lake CPUs! Very disappointing indeed. It looks like my mini upgrade (Graphic card, CPU and RAM) may set me back a shade under $2K. It is tempting to leap into a full new...

Thanks Michael, I will check that out. I've been away from sim for so long it is all new to me again! I did get REX WeatherForce and that seems to work ok - the builtin live weather simply wasn't working for me, and I read some work arounds but REX has always been solid, so went with that again. Cheers

Pedals gone. New pedals ordered - I *really* wanted the Crosswind pedals, but I did the maths and the difference between those and the Saitek are worth 3.6hrs real life flying - so I'm going Saitek again! Rather be in the sky those extra hours. Those Crosswinds do look bloody nice tho... :)

Wow, thanks a lot for the amazingly informative response! The ultrawide monitor would be amazing to use, however it seems that, while an XBox can drive it, it will only display a 16:9 image, with black bars at the edges. It looks like my two options are still either a projector or very large flatscreen TV. I'll have to try and get the 'immersion' factor through the display's size alone.
