QUOTE (ZKTOM @ Jul 17 2009, 09:00 PM) That is nice pilotgallagher01! How did you get clearance to do it right over the aerodrome? Cheers Mate, That is 3,500-4,000ft in the overhead which you just request and they usually give it to you

Thanks guys, I've found that if I'm on the ground photographing aircraft in the air I use centre weighted metering with about +1.3 exposure compensation. Otherwise the brightness of the sky behind the darker aircraft would result in a very dark aircraft. This does tend to result in a slightly overexposed sky. I usually photograph helecopters at about 1/250th of a second (using speed priority)so that I get some rotor blur. I'm usually using my 300mm lens, so 1/250th is also about as slow as I can go hand held. My trusty Nikon D40X is pretty basic but it does the job for the moment,...

Auckkland - Singapore After take-off Not much over the Tasman so I waited until Brisbane! But there's always something to see over Aussie - pity that it was hazy More outback Over Indonesia An Active volcano in the distance Sunset as we performed a hold Finals at Singapore My DSLR doesn't take very well to these sort of night photos Upon landing we had what could only be described by a large swerve with the wing dipping down towards the runway. Maybe a slight crosswind?

QUOTE (Trolly @ Jul 7 2009, 01:42 PM) Somehow missed this thread- you are a great photographer ruakituri! Please don't hesitate to post more snaps from your flights! Likewise - I missed this thread also. Mate!!! There's some amazingly atmospheric shots in that lot. Love the slow shutter speed used on the Q300 shots, the slight motion blur on the QFA landing, and the light (and atmosphere) on the ANZ 733 shots. Great work! Speaking as a fellow photographer, I'm most impressed.

Sounds Air operate the three aircraft in the picture. ZK-TZR is the latest and was purchased late last year and the picture below was taken a couple of days before the paint work was changed. We set up this flight the day after the Christmas party when all three were at Omaka. Set up a route to fly so the aircraft wouldnt be taken too far out of the way but provide a nice back drop and the results were very pleasing.
