QUOTE (Trolly @ Sep 11 2009, 10:33 AM) Beautiful scenery- did you guys have to take a special mountain flying course to VFR around that area, or can anyone with a PPL fly there? No special training required for this type of flying, however choose your days very carefully. Mid winter is generally the best. In regards to mountain flying courses, these are a good idea if wanting to gain more knowledge, and subject to the pilots background and experience. If you want to work out of the Queenstown region for one of the scenic operaters then you will have to complete a 50hr mountain flying...

QUOTE (benwynn @ Sep 7 2009, 09:06 PM) Yeah, a long long time ago it was BNE-AKL-LAX, but thats years ago now. Im not sure of the exact schedule, but yes, they're chopping and changing between the A330 and the 744 on the MEL-AKL leg, not sure of the exact days/seasons etc, but some days its the A330, some days its the 744. no no no, im talking about recent times, when timetable for AKL-LAX(now its departing few hours earlier). AKL-LAX served only 744(A330 have been on that route only when 743 was in process of retiring). There is no 744 or A330 on MEL leg(its operated on 737...

QUOTE (2fst4u @ Sep 2 2009, 06:20 PM) apparently they generate so much lift that they can fly with a meter of the rotor lopped off each end without hassell. nice pic btw That happened with the WAW Huey a few yrs ago. landed safely after losing a ft of rotor. Sadly crashed later with a tail rotor failure killing all on board. Thanks, have heard so much about chicken hawk, must read it. have seen a doco with the author, very impressive

QUOTE (2fst4u @ Sep 1 2009, 05:59 PM) man this time next year i hope im in the air force. just need to get interviewed... how often do you go plane spotting? a new camera might be a worthwhile investment /smile.gif style= vertical-align:middle emoid= :) border= 0 alt= smile.gif /> that last pic is pretty good Same here maybe not in the airforce but want to start pilot training soon..maybe at ardmore I hardly make special trips to the airport to go plane spotting specially. I just got these pictures as we were going back up to Auckland from Wellington and we were looking for a rest...

Airtrainer - the jetstar photo is timestamped at 16:35 d3fail3r - that would be the old crash access gate. No hole there now, I had a look yesterday. There's the perimeter fence, then the security fence, then a load of old wooden barriers, and then a double height row of coiled razor wire. Redkiwi - the causeway would be interesting, the pohutukawas are getting quite thick now so that might be an issue. The reserve on the left as you come off the causeway onto the island would probably be just as good, probably the height equivalent of Puhinui Rd. Then there are a couple of very discrete...

Bloody awesome shots! Nothing beats blatting around in a Huey, doors open low level /drool.gif style= vertical-align:middle emoid= border= 0 alt= drool.gif /> Have you got any pictures of Iroquois #15 by any chance? (That's the one I scored a ride in earlier this year at Whenuapai)
