Thanks for the birthday wishes chaps. it's appreciated. I did have a little dram to help mark the occasion (ok, it was a pretty large dram actually) and pigged out on an extremely rich chocolate cake - so rich I couldn't have seconds at all - maybe that's a sign of advancing years. However, that does mean I have a big heap left for today!

One thing that struck me before having both these aircraft from new smack the same time they first flew is the fact when one heard the sound of the DC-3 about to fly overhead it was the Catalina and another occasion when you heard the Catalina about to fly overhead it was this DC-3 ... the sound nearly exactly the same .

Thank you. I follow your motorcycle posts with interest. The last motorcycle I owned was a four pipe Ariel Square Four. Loved that but had to give it up so as to pay for flying lessons. (A long time ago!!)

This was one of those spur of the moment entries and I had used the default Microsoft sail-plane so was pleasantly surprised to find that it was the winning entry (though by the smallest of margins) and black and white as well! It just goes to show that it's not always the flashiest or latest aircraft/scenery that's needed. However, as Dean mentioned I also don't know what the secret ingredient is to be sure of a win - well, one things for sure, if you don't enter you can't win. A suggestion for competition entries try and resize your image to over 1200px wide that would make it much easier to do a banner from. I also suggest that if you have been using PhotoBucket that you consider using another host as PhotoBucket resizes all your images to 1024px wide and as you can see by this months banner very hard to make that image fit into the 1200px wide banner.
