Apparently they do cunning things like make deliberate 'mistakes'... I was reading an article a while back where some guy was talking about a street he found on google maps that didn't exist... he knew this, because it went right through his house or something. The idea being that they put fake streets in, so if someone copies their data, they can say "well obviously they copied our data, as it has this deliberate mistake in it" Just something to be aware of.

QUOTE (Trolly @ Jan 2 2009, 09:40 PM) Don't know how to help with this particular situation- but I've had similar issues with aircraft repaints in DXTbmp before which I fixed by unchecking the mip-maps box. Maybe whatever you use has a similar format? You're project sounds intriguing by the way. Care to post any preview screenies? Sure, I'll post links for those who are on slower connections as these images are straight off the screen dump. This image shows a map of the bulk of the work thus far - an improved edge of Lake Taupo plus the addition of such lakes as...

pretty much what Rob said- Hindsight is a wonderful thing....so with the benefit of hindsight, I would have used Gmax from the start to finish even though Sketchup is soooo easy to use, you still need a lot of knowledge of Gmax AND sketchup to generate content suitable for FSX. If there are specific questions about FSX scenery that you are wanting to tackle, don't hesitate to ask /smile.gif style= vertical-align:middle emoid= :) border= 0 alt= smile.gif />

What imagery are you using? If it is from anywhere decent (i.e. proper orthophotography) id leave it as is.....the colour/textures will change somewhere down the track and then yours will be left looking out of place /smile.gif style= vertical-align:middle emoid= :) border= 0 alt= smile.gif />

QUOTE (cowpatz @ Dec 10 2008, 09:42 AM) Thanks for that guys. It looks like you have ALL of NZ covered there Lawrie. You must be able to cook dinner whilst waiting for FS9 to load up! Nope,........ FS still loads in under 60 seconds............. Number of aircraft installed, affects the time it takes FS to start up,.......... not the number of addon sceneries........... QUOTE (Snowman @ Dec 7 2008, 03:20 PM) You realise you dont have to download and install all object libraries listed in the docs, with each and every scenery you install.............. You only need to get the ones you dont already have................ Err.. yes, I realise that /thumbup1.gif style= vertical-align:middle emoid= border= 0 alt= thumbup1.gif /> It's the " getting the ones you dont have " part that can be tricky to remember. Maybe a lightweight installer script to check to see you've got the required ones and hilight those you dont have?...

Yes please Steve !! I quite forgot that you were just a up the road aways from Tok !! Anything of the buildings would be good, also runway, parking , etc Kart track etc would be handy as well. If you can manage it, a sketch maybe of the layout of the airfeild buildings etc. Google cant help there, so i wont...

The roads with moving lights can be done quite neatly. There is a scenery for Cairns that does this - I'm assuming - using FSSC. During the day there are regular road textures and at night there are lights travelling along the left (correct) side of the road which impressed me. The lights do only move at motorway speeds though.

QUOTE (Charl @ Dec 1 2008, 07:59 PM) It's probably the closest thing I"ve seen to a sloping runway in Flight Sinmualtor - Christian's topo strip maps beyond the runway Glad its working- that north slope is really a taxiway, but the grass taxiway texture is not the best feature of AFCAD. I used runway grass texture for the lower end and just left the slope alone- flattening everything looked horrible…it would work miles better with a photoreal texture like Aratula and those other great Mark Lee sloping strips but thats higher up my learning slope, er, curve... Would...
