Tena kotou !
I've been working on some LiDAR-based scenery for X-Plane made using Linux, Python/GDAL, QGIS and Ortho4XP, following some success in getting LiDAR into racing sims like Assetto Corsa. The horizontal resolution is about 1m and vertical is 50-20cm with 95% confidence in clear and open spaces. I've only got 16GB of RAM to work with though, so resolution ranges from 1m to 8m, but for comparison the Orbx "holgermesh" and alpilotx meshes are 10m: still an order of magnitude improvement in places! The LiDAR and orthophotos used are from Land Information New Zealand and ESA, all Creative Commons licensed so I'm releasing this for free!
If anyone here's interested I've uploaded over at x-plane.org:
Wellington, Queenstown, Dunedin, Manawatu and Whangarei have LiDAR coverage and working on bringing that in too!
