The NZFF May 2018 Screenshot Competition is closed - winner announced!

NZFF May 2018 Screenshot Competition
The competition is now open!

The theme for May is:
"Water Wings: Naval Aviation or Air Force operations over water"
... chosen by Kiwi1spad, winner of the March (theme) competition. If you have any theme-related queries, send him a PM!
Note: military or emergency services - not a GA aircraft with floats! Any location.

Image
This month's competition is (once again) kindly sponsored by A2A and the winner will receive a download of their choice from the excellent range of A2A products.
They're great developers and have been a great sponsor in the past, so let's honour them with a good turnout!

SCHEDULE
Images can be submitted (or edited) up until midnight Thursday 31st May (Pacific/Auckland: UTC+12).
Voting runs from Friday 1st June up until midnight Tuesday 5th June (Pacific/Auckland: UTC+12).

Please read the rules below: if you have any queries, please PM Comp Admin for clarification **before posting your entry**.

    PRIZES
  1. Visual Appeal: the winner gets their image displayed as a banner for the following month.
Vote for the image you find the most appealing.
  2. Relevance to the Theme: the winner gets the sponsored prize and sets the theme for the next screencomp.
Vote for the image you think best fits the theme.

    ELIGIBILITY
  3. Entry (and voting) for the competition is open to all registered NZFF members.

    THE SCREENSHOT
  4. The screenshot image must consist of a screen captured from any flight simulator program (FS2004, FSX, P3D, X-plane, Aerofly, DCS/IL-2, War Thunder etc.).
  5. Some editing is allowed: additional images can be added (either real or other screenshots), but the main component of the image should always be from a flight sim.

    IMAGE FORMAT
  6. The images can be jpg or png and must be EXACTLY 1280px wide (any depth).
  7. Though "visual appeal" is all about the complete screenshot image (regardless of shape) bear in mind that, if it wins the "Visuals" poll, the final banner crops to quite a narrow letter-box shape - so try to compose your shot so as not to lose areas of high interest.
  8. No frames or text on the image.
  9. Keep the original uncompressed/high resolution version (BMP or TIFF) saved on your PC - admin may request it from you at the end of the month to convert into a site banner!
  10. DCS users may want to look at these DCS tips.

    SUBMITTING AN ENTRY
  11. Please post all screenshot/entries here - in this topic (below).
  12. Only ONE entry/single image per member is allowed.
  13. Images can changed any time up until closing time (midnight, last day of the month): use the "edit" button at the top of the original post, delete the old image link and replace it with the new one.
  14. If possible, please add details of the aircraft depicted and general scenery/location information.

    VOTING
  15. After the competition entry deadline, all registered NZFF members may cast TWO votes: one for visual appeal and one for relevance to the theme.
The two votes can both go to the same entry or to different ones - but please vote in BOTH categories.
  16. Entrants may not vote on their own screenshots (!).
  17. The winner in the "relevance" poll receives the prize from the designated sponsor and gets to suggest a theme for the next screencomp.
  18. The winner in the "visual appeal" poll will have a cropped version of their image posted as the NZFF banner for the following month.
  19. Voting is OPEN - and placed by posts in a new (voting) topic.
  20. Votes are along the lines of Visuals vote to XXXX and Relevance vote to YYYY. Voters may add why they voted the way they did if they wish.
  21. Voting runs for five days and then the voting topic is closed.
  22. If you win the theme vote (and sponsored prize), don't forget to post a "thank you" topic with some screenshots!

That's it, folks - get snapping!

Adam.

I know many think oh its such a narrow set of requirements, but there are HEAPS of freeware airplanes out there if your not a military type flyer, and the freeware carriers and shipping out there is pretty damn extensive as well. There is so much that can be done.

Do I detect a "Dusk" leftover? B-) Which carrier is that?

BTW, folks - aussiex/fsfiles has been attacked/compromised, so any pics posted there may not be displaying at the moment. JK is working on it (bless him) and hopes to get back to normal soon!

Not quite Adamski :) It is fresh from yesterday evening but I thought it would be nice to incorporate the previous theme. Anyway, golden hour is always nice for the light (although I left my run a little late this time)!...

The carrier is from the USS Nimitz & USS Eisenhower Version 2.0 pack by Javier Fernandez used with AI carriers. They are some of the best quality ones (freeware) available. Also have a bunch of deck configurations (recovery, takeoff, man the rails/port visit, T-45 trials, empty) there is also UNREP for the two with the USS Patuxent (my favorite). Pack can be found on Flyaway Simulation.

Absolutely devastating that Aussiex is down, I used to check it almost every day until it went down :( Hope they can get it back up!

Oh god ....so do I :( All my stuff is there.
Similar thing over at HJG , not sure if you noticed, but a big warning comes up when you try to check the downloads.
Something about an attack .

JK is usually pretty good at restoring the site. Sadly, it's not the first time this has happened (as sign of the times :( ). I don't think anyone will have actually lost any of the files - though I shudder to think how large the backups must be!!!

Here at NZFF - for the competition at least - once a vote gets under way, I copy all the pics to the NZFF server so they're always there (for posterity) in case the original hosting site goes AWOL - or pulls a funny like PhotoBucket, Flickr etc. ...

I've PM'd all entrants with missing [FSFiles] entries - asking you to email me your pics. I'll re-upload them to the NZFF server. Check your PMs folks!

Adamski,

Is JK of OZ Sims working at this moment to restore FsFiles.org website?? I really like FsFiles very much and do not want to be forced to look for another image web hosting site for third time after Photobucket's ransom extortion strategy.

As far as we know, he is. He did warn that it was a bit of a mammoth task and he's a bit pushed for time right at this moment.

These hack attacks have happened 2 or 3 times in the past - and he manages to get things working fairly quickly ... usually!!! He runs it as a hobby and has to have donation drives to pay for the hosting. I shudder to think what he must be paying. There's a fairly strong relationship with ORBX and OZx, so there may be some additional friendly pressure from them to get it going ASAP - but I don't think there have ever been any financial links between them.

My preferred hosting site is FSFiles, but I've used Postimage from way before using OZx - and still use it occasionally in situations like this. Postimage is free - and good (IMHO) ... but nowhere near as functional as FSFiles (when it's working!!). Don't take any notice of stories about files being removed if there are long periods of inactivity (either logging in or uploading) - I've used it for years with very long breaks and nothing has ever happened.

I also used Photobucket for a while but [also] found their service (and quality) quite appalling.

In conclusion, I'd definitely recommend Postimage as a decent backup hosting site. You may even find it fulfils all your needs. Toprob has use them for years - and he certainly knows the ropes.

On reflection it would be silly to enter a competition with a prize you can't use, at the expense of someone who could!
I only have Aerofly FS2 running, and A2A doesn't make anything for it yet.

But what a thought!
C'mon A2A, with your astonishing model skills brought to this astonishing graphics environment, what an experience awaits!

So I've pulled my entry and put it with some other "possibles" over here for your enjoyment:

Adamski,

Thanks for well detailed answers. I tested Postimage and did not like it. So, My present strategy is to wait patiently for FsFiles to resurface as better image hosting site with stronger security measures to keep hackers off. If FsFiles has decided not to resurface, then I will explore every image hosting website to determine if it can meet my needs using someone's suggested list of image hosting sites as seen below:
