It took some fortitude to be an aviator back then. Winter. Altitude. Open cockpit.
I wonder how long it took, after landing, sitting by the fire/stove to regain feeling in your nose ?
Great (cold) shot.

In P G Taylor's autobiography "The Sky Beyond" , there is a photo of him wearing a leather face mask which was issued to prevent pilots' noses becoming frostbitten.... :ph43r:

'Propliner' is actually short for 'Proper airliner, with big rumbly radials'

Marty, among other things:
NOTE: Sir Patrick Gordon Taylor was an Australian pioneer aviator who fought with the Royal Flying Corps in the First World War and crossed the Atlantic for R.A.F. in the Second World War. In 1934 he made the first crossing of the Pacific from Australia to America. Also in 1951 first crossing Aust to S. America.
It has been my policy for years to have two copies on hand, because I keep meeting people who can give one of them a good home. Been a bit remiss lately, but trust in the Easter Bunny. :) .I arrive in CH on March 29.

I have been sorely temped to come to Wanaka this year. My wife has said 'go', but I'd have to sell my soul or my motorcycle.
