The NZFF May 2017 Screenshot Competition - now closed

NZFF May 2017 Screenshot Competition

NOTE: We now have TWO VOTES (one in each of TWO POLLS): One in the *visual appeal* poll and one in the *relevance* to the theme poll.
The two votes can go to the same entry or to different ones.
The winner in the "relevance" poll gets the sponsored prize, whilst the winner in the "visual appeal" poll gets to have their banner displayed for the following month.

The May theme is: "Bucolic Bliss/Relaxingly Rural"
The location can be anywhere in the world - and the image should try to capture the atmosphere or "charm" of the countryside in some way.

Dictionary: Bucolic: Relating to the pleasant aspects of the countryside and country life.
Dictionary: Rural: in, relating to, or characteristic of the countryside rather than the town.
Keywords: rustic, wildlife, farming.
Theme chosen by Adamski (winner of the March competition) - if you have any theme-related queries, send him a PM!

Image
This month's competition is kindly sponsored by Carenado. The winner will receive a download of their choice from the excellent Carenado Product Range.

SCHEDULE
Images can be submitted up until midnight Wednesday 31st May.
Images can be edited up until 11pm Wednesday 31st May.
Voting runs from Thursday 1st June up until midnight Monday 5th June.

Please read the rules below: if you have any queries, please PM Comp Admin for clarification **before posting your entry**.

    ELIGIBILITY
  1. Entry (and voting) for the competition is open to all registered NZFF members.

    THE SCREENSHOT
  2. The screenshot image must consist of a screen captured from a flight simulator program (FS2004, FSX, P3D, X-plane, DCS/IL-2 or War Thunder).
  3. Some editing is allowed: additional images can be added (either real or other screenshots), but the main component of the image should always be from a flight sim.

    IMAGE FORMAT
  4. The images can be jpg or png and must be 1280px wide (any depth).
  5. Though "visual appeal" is all about the complete screenshot image, bear in mind that (if it wins that poll), the final banner crops to around 1200px * 380px (max) - which is quite a narrow letter-box shape - so try to compose your shot so as not to lose areas of high interest.
  6. No frames or text on the image.
  7. Keep the original uncompressed/high resolution version (BMP or TIFF) saved on your PC - admin may request it from you at the end of the month to convert into a site banner!
  8. DCS users may want to look at these tips.

    SUBMITTING AN ENTRY
  9. Please post all screenshot/entries here - in this topic.
  10. Only one entry/single image per member is allowed.
  11. Images can changed any time up until 1 hour before the closing time: use the "edit" button at the top of the original post, delete the old image link and replace it with the new one.
  12. If possible, please add details of the aircraft depicted and general scenery/location information.

    VOTING
  13. After the competition entry deadline, all registered NZFF members may cast TWO votes: one for visual appeal and one for relevance to the theme.
The two votes can both go to the same entry or to different ones - but you must vote in BOTH polls.
  14. Entrants may not vote on their own screenshots (!).
  15. Voting runs for five days after the entry deadline.
  16. The winner in the "relevance" poll receives the prize from the designated sponsor and gets to suggest a theme for the next screencomp.
  17. The winner in the "visual appeal" poll will have a cropped version of their image posted as the NZFF banner for the following month.

That's it, folks - get your gumboots on!

Thanks, Ian ... not sure about the "Tuguskee Airmen" thing though - weren't they mainly in P-47s? I think they started with P-39s and P-40s and ended up with P-51s. I've seen the film - maybe there were scenes of them training in T-6s (can't remember  )!

A great way to spend an afternoon -- just the distant buzz of the timber mill, and the occasional ZK visitor...

Finally another chance to post something from my homeland!

Image

I fly here regulary myself (be it in a DA-20 or C172), because Texel Airport (on the island of Texel) is my favorite airport to fly to here in The Netherlands. The people there are always relaxt, nice and helpful. After paying the 18 Euro landing fee I usually sit down at the hotel/restaurant for a quick lunch. In spring and summer, there are skydivers jumping above the field and are landing right in front of the terrace. Although 'rural' and 'countryside' don't really apply to the Netherlands (the population is around 17 million people on 41,543 km2 of land. New Zealand has 4.8 million people on 268,021 km2) But the Island of Texel is sparsely populated, mostly by sheep, so I think it will fit in this month's comp :P

The city above the tail is called "Den Helder", it houses the whole Royal Dutch Navy Fleet and it has a small airport, mostly used for off-shore helicopters. Also the ferry to Texel sails from that port.

Scenery is NL2000 and the aircraft is the Alabeo PA-32 Saratoga

If anyone is interested, some parts of Texel can be seen in this video. A friend made it for me when he flew with me (video is 1:31 long):

Nice one Roel , this area is very much not so far from the New Zealand's Canterbury Plains in around Lake Elesmere , except the waterway here are mostly natural amd not controlled or man made B-) , course North Island has the Thames region.

Great to see your home[land] appearing here! That's a super little video too (envy!)!!! I made quite a few trips to Holland in my volleyballing days (sadly history now) ... the Dutch have to be some of the friendliest and most welcoming people on the planet.

Reassuring to see that all the entries so far have followed the rules with respect to the 1280px width thing - it all helps!!!

Keep 'em coming!

Hey Flt Simmers .Having ago, why not eh.
This is DCS Caucasus Map aka Black Sea. Heading down a gently rolling valley.Could be a scene closer to home actually but no it is in Georgia about half way between Batumi and Tbilisi on the Lesser Caucasus Mountains.
This is a rotary wing all of you will probably have seen up until it retirement not that long ago. This Mod is by Upuaut of the Bell 47 or Sioux as it was known as here.

Dinga ...That is so close to what happened to me, we were up around Lake Lyndon , Ports Pass region , Twas a fishing trip with the ole man for younger Richard and Neil , Allan and my self went there to go climbing up the other side of the beginning of the Lake .. we Climb and climbed till we were up in the cloud , it was great ... was another story to that , but then we heard the very distinctive sound of a Sioux , we quickly started to race down the mountain only to pop out of the cloud to surprise the pilot .. the view was so very similar ! course once he got a bearing on us gave us a little impromptu display , only a few minute ... just something that stuck in my brain case.

Great screen, Dinga! I have DCS myself and though scenery isn't quite as stunning as FSX or P3D (IMHO), its *aircraft* models are simply superb!!!! Anyway - it's good to see a screenshot from DCS!

Point No.4 of the rules says the pics should be 1280px. Are you able to save images from DCS at any higher than 1024px? I'm not at my sim PC at the moment, so can't test. If it's very hard/impossible to go larger, I may have to relax the rule (for DCS users). There are two reasons for the width limitation:

a) To give everyone a level playing field. eg. A 1350px (or higher) version may look a whole lot better than a 1024px one - even if it were the same image.
b) The banners are 1200px wide - and scaling UP isn't really something you want to be doing.

Adam.

EDIT: I'm just wondering whether it's a Flickr limitation. If so, you maywant to look at Postimage or FsFiles (OzX). Both are free and allow for larger images (and, more importantly, don't rescale or resample/recompress the original).

Thanks Adam! I'm actually moving up and down from The Netherlands and Poland (Łódź) all the time. Poland is your home country right? Anyways, I do my flighttraining and classes there and sometimes I just go there to study since I have so many distractions at home  Nothing better than some good Pierogi and Piwo

Thankyou Adamski for the kind words .
I thought I might have made some error here. You see when it comes to screen sizes ,well I thought I just had to set the screen res of the sim to 1280 x whatever it was and I would be ok. Clearly I have missed some vital step a long the way. In paint the width size is 1280 so it must be when I tried to resize it. Maybe I should have just left it at the original. I had better read the thread on posting images properly this time
