Some of my contemporaries might remember that the original Vickers Vanguard was to have a 15 degree rotation available in the main gear, to help deal with crosswinds at Edinburgh. It was later dropped because of the weight penalty, but this Beeb clip will give you some idea of why it was thought necessary.
