Christchurch AGN updates

An effort to collaborate all freeware New Zealand scenery addons. Discuss the creation and management of the project here.

Postby Ian Warren » Thu Mar 22, 2012 3:56 pm

For the people who have the Christchurch/Canterbury photo scenery This covers the area and still a WIP
Complete file covering the photo currently supplied on - To be revised

Also includes Doug's roof texture fix . Those very small files put into the Scenery folder .
The other files , AGNs simply drop them into your Christchurch FSX texture folder .

All AGN updates will be posted here as the city gradually rebuilds . Many districts and regional farms including the small towns still require work .

For those who fly in regular , the airports are open , Wigram is to be kept open to keep with the photo and off course the photo is pre earthquake , it will be a little silly to try and rebuild AGNs and a town that is no more until work and construction shows any sign , Rob has his hands on models that will rebuild CHCH again pre EQ . We will see how that will fit in .

The file works fine with both VLC and NZSI .. recommend NZSI due to the static photo texture .

Don't forget , the photofile from the link above , all free and you then can follow and see how the city grows . Below the link for the updates still included is the roof texture fix .

I have removed the AGN updates from Ians post (with his permission) we hope to be able to tighten up on who can download files from the forum.
In the meantime if anyone wants the latest AGN updates or any of the other files for the high res Photo Christchurch they can send either Ian or me a PM

Just as a matter of interest, who distributes the photo scenery now? Has anyone actually stepped up and accepted ownership of this, or is it still a grey area? It has always been a bit of a hot potato, with a lot of issues regarding who exactly owns the distribution rights, so it would be great to see this sorted. I've always wanted to get involved with the Christchurch scenery, and I do have a few things in development, but I'm still not clear on this one point.

From what i know about the file ,Doug has maybe redone the whole image and that it would now come under commons license 3.0 or something ,the old file i dropped as soon as i stopped dealings with the Thatchers as i couldn't trust the License files supplied by them anymore ..i still hold the source files i think in my saved bk ups as i was the one who made unknowingly the photo bgls .

i would hope that the newer imagery available would be sorted and used to replace the old or Doug as i said has maybe redone the area..

I guess no one owns the photo if it is freely given , but you have to be licensed to place and as for the editing then becomes listed as a work which can be interpreted so as long as it is observed by the original source , with the additional work put onto that photo it then becomes the persons right to preserve it under and with permission in there name .

In other words all the work involved cutting out the rivers and the shore line to have it placed into a flight-simulation program - the ANG - autogen and gable fix's and other additional files then become the property of the peoples who created or made the scenery , and finally the airports or city that are to be added also become property unless without permission are the rights off the authors .

Ian, are you describing an actual license agreement, such as Creative Commons Attribution 3.0, which Mike mentioned? I think that the post-earthquake Chch image was licensed this way, but this needs to be spelt out, you can't just assume that this is the case. I'm not sure if you are talking about this, or just saying that it'll be ok because you've done a lot of work on it. I'm just talking about the photo scenery, I understand that the autogen is not an issue.

The high resolution photo images used are Freely available no license required and if you want the size of the whole download it was just over 20GB

I would suggest that any further development work on the scenery be documented in detail on the forum, including such information as sourcing of the new photoreal, how it's put together, licencing etc. A sizable thread on the work so far already exists, so perhaps this could be built on? Personally, I would find it fascinating to see the various steps of the process by which a complex scenery like this is made. There are lots of different elements all being contributed by different people - photoreal, autogen, airports, buildings etc - and it would be interesting to see both how this work is done and how it builds up into the whole. Seeing the processes may also persuade other people to get involved. Plus of course, a side effect is that a complete paper trail of the scenery's development - and who contributed what - would exist in the public domain in the event of any ownership disputes with third parties or piracy.

When the scenery's finished, it should be released with a big fanfare. I'm a tester for the scenery and it's superb; a major step up from any other previous Christchurch scenery. Perhaps it could be branded as an NZFF community project?

Just my thoughts,
Ade

Ade - That is the general idea in all aspects bloody great idea , the very reason i posted this in the screen shot thread ( http://nzff.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=15983 ) .. Ade , you must send the photo's of Wigram that you took , recall that brand new HD i had (like only 2 weeks).. it really died with all the photo's you did on the outsides and many other files , I have started rebuilding Wigram , flatten ready to place the buildings as soon as I remodel .

My rule number ONE : Anybody that contributes as little as it may or it seems dose not get planted in a read-me ... they get listed either during the build or on updated posts in screen describing and pointing out features . Our current list is

Doug Cunniffe - Photo editing and Mister AGN gable roof top fixer - The screen shot Competition man smile.gif
Mike Allen-Andrews - Advice on model build and Library files
Gavin Andrews -, 'Kahu' maybe wants to take on the small community fields later
Robin Corn - , Christchurch City Center , pre Earthquake .. www.windowlight.co.nz .. Photoreal NZ to the Max
Ian Warren - , AGNing and model maker and editing the area and general trouble maker and stirrer ninja.gif
Adrian Petford - That fella ask the question but also has some very valuable Wigram photos .

The Current NZFF community project team !

Not sure if I am posting this in the correct place but I will give it a shot. I have installed the fantastic Christchurch X scenery but I am having problems with the colour blending of the scenery. This may be called something else and I dont know the technical term for it, but I have a pic that I just took, can anyone offer me any advice on how I can make it blend in with my ORBX scenery?

Hi Gareth that is normal and it will alter with the different seasons as the photo scenery doesn't alter with the seasons
Here are the different seasons

Autumn

Winter

Spring

Summer
