Searching for legacy Red Baron Entertainment 20m NZ mesh for FS 2004

Postby rexcaptain501 » Sun Jun 17, 2018 9:02 pm

Hi there

I'm searching for Red Baron Entertainment's 20m NZ mesh for FS 2004. I contacted Geographx NZ who own the rights to the software and received a reply from a guy called Roger Smith. He has permitted the software to be distributed freely.

I've attached an image of the email I received from him. PostImage might play odd, try clicking the image if it doesn't look right.

Does anyone still have the untouched media to the 20m mesh, and could they upload it somewhere?

Can any of the mods or admins vouch for this person? The email in the image is dated Nov 2017.

I'm sure that the email would be genuine I know I had dealings with Roger many years ago when they had the 20 mesh on the geographx website.

You could send Sonnyj a PM to see if he still has the CD

I have a copy of this if you are unable to get a copy through the methods suggested above.
I can't see anything in the EULA about redistribution (non commercially).
PM me your email address.

This is from the EULA in the zip I downloaded (12661KB)

"2. Prohibitions with Regard to the Data.
You, whether directly or indirectly, shall not do any of the following acts:
rent the Data;
sell the Data;
lease or lend the Data;
offer the Data on a pay-per-play basis;
distribute the Data by any means, including, but not limited to, Internet, peer-to-peer networks, or other electronic distribution, direct mail, retail, mail order or other means;
in any other manner and through any medium whatsoever commercially exploit the Data (e.g. MSFS scenery add-ons, CD-ROM software compilations, etc.) or use the Data for any commercial purpose (e.g. flight training, geographic information services, etc.);
disassemble, reverse engineer, decompile, modify or alter the Data;
translate the Data;
reproduce or copy the Data, except for "back up" purposes;
publicly display the Data; or
prepare or develop derivative works based upon the Data.

If geographicx have lost their file, I am willing to send a copy of the zip to Roger, who can then upload it to Avsim or Flightsim. That seems to me the proper way to go.

I have just been talking to roger on the phone and he stated that Geographx no longer had any interest in the Red Barron 20 mesh.
He also stated that they had not been able to contact Christain for quite some time now and could see no reason why as it was very old data it could not be redistributed now as long as it was distributed free.
I have also tried to contact Christian but as his email address was through his website which has now been closed.
So now I have just placed a message on his Facebook so will see if I get a reply.

Many thanks, Doug. I haven't seen any flight sim activity from Christian for years.

No Christian seems to have just dropped off the radar left messages to him and also to some of his FB friends but got no answer from any of them.
I suggest if you still want the Red Barron 20 mesh you send a PM to cowpatz for a copy

I have finally got in touch with Cristian through Facebook and here is what he had to say,
"Sorry for the silence Doug. I don't really know what to do. The mesh is co-owned by geographx so I can't make that call. Can't be that many people asking for it these days. If you'd put it onto Dropbox and keep the link within nzff, I can't see how that would be a problem."

You can see above post the response from Geogaphx

So if anyone still has it and wants to put it on Dropbox and put the link in the members only thread it will make it available for members that still want it.

Hi. Just joined the forum.

I have the June 2007 CD published by Geographx which I'm happy to put on Dropbox as a ZIP file.

The last email said "put the link in the members only thread". How do I do that.

Thanks,

Hey guys... looks like I was two years too late for the Dropbox link on the other thread! I really appreciate the help you've all been giving. Would anyone still happen to have the 20m mesh available? B-)

If yes, perhaps the DB link would suffice.

Yes but I have had the free 50gb option so I am not contributing to paying his lawyers and all the files can be downloaded without charge so why not make the most of it.

Would I be correct in assuming the Update patch is the one required for FSX?

The patch is Roads and Rivers of NZ FSX patch Version 1.1
This patch makes R & R of NZ compatible with FSX
