Nice to see someone still flying the SAAB. Charl really nice thread A1 scenery all the way, I dont fly Ians stuff it is soooo good looking but I like to keep crash detection on (which is a shame really as I am particularly fond of his Nelson scenery). I am sorely tempted to tutor Ian in GMax once he gets that down pat he will be producing the best scenery in the world >nzflag<

This may be due to the 'TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL=19' line in my fs9.cfg.

Yup you effectively have 75m mesh, as Christian has pointed out.
My installed 20m mesh produces steeper breaks, which may sometimes have a less pleasing effect.
Robin's old Kaikoura scenery works on 150m mesh and not at all on 20m!

Really funny you should say that - I had the SAAB out for the Timaru drop-in, but thought it may be a little large for the runway.
So used the Maule instead.
This actually doesn't need a runway, just plops into a spare parking from short finals.

Dammit! I missed that post somehow- although I feel my mesh setup looks way better than the old 75m freeware that I had... does it look like the 75m freeware in my screenshots?

Up the coast to one of my old-time favourites, GodZone's Kaikoura.
There's a bit of photoreal which doesn't work 100% but you just look the other way as you fly past B)
Robin has created a cure for floating buildings on 20m mesh, so it's all good :)

Various GNZLAP wildlife drifts in from time to time - Piper, Maule (from Timaru, see earlier shots above), VA Cessna

and if you know where to look, you'll even see some regular wildlife:

I love flying Marcel Kuhnt's Islander around here, just made for day tripping.

Now over the hill to an airport which causes a lot of heartache.
Heartache? Well, it's a "Wingman" Warren creation, and has the normal crash detection issues.
But this time I found I couldn't load up the sim anywhere on the airport without getting told off.
Heartache? It's in the midst of some spectacular scenery, which it complements very nicely from the air.
But it is a frame HAWG!
Wouldn't it be great if we could cut "Wingman" up into 4 pieces, each doing an airport remake in GMax? :P
So for these shots, I started at Motueka, and hopped over.
The SAAB is a real rocket (400kts anyone?), and I didn't have time to reach altitude before letting down for a little traffic consternation.

A fair smattering of GA and airline traffic, but in this part of the world a chopper is the preferred means of transport.
Time to change planes, Jordan Moore's brilliant Bell 412 resplendant in NZ paint (thanks Naki for the pointer!)
And from then on, it's all pure scenery...

By the way, I just downloaded nzns_04.zip for the first time and am unsure of what AFCAD to use for fs2004. Should I have the one included or the GNZLAP one?

Charl,

What AI pack includes FGH, the Piper Archer owned by South Canterbury Aero Club?

Brilliant screenies as usual!

Beats me :P
When in doubt, always use the AFCAD that comes with scenery.
(RealNZ excepted, GNZLAP AFCADs add to the supplied versions)
GNZLAP AFCADs were thrown in to fill in where none exist.

Edit: Thanks Matthew! That Piper is in GNZLAP Pack 5.
Edit2:
Here's a discard I couldn't fit in above.
Reckon it shows the SAAB off nicely though.

All this pootling around the backwoods...left out the Crown Jewel of NZ airports,
RealNZ Wellington NZWN (http://www.windowlight.co.nz/)
With no further ado, stepping into my personalised Bell out of Nelson, off to Wellie:

Taking a leaf out of Johanfrc's book, a little panoramic shooting (good test of monitor resolution):

There's no shotage of wildlife around here:

It's home to all sorts.
Interesting to find an "Easter Egg" after all this time! You did know that those traffic booms are animated, right? (Pic Bottom Left)

Well, Lawrie "Snowman" Roache has been busy lately, so I thought I'd drop in to Hamilton and see if all works there.

Lawry has provided a much-needed airport scenery in the North Island.
I can't remember too much detail, as I've only been there once for the bi-annual Fieldays agricultural show.
I do remember there was a Bell 206 ferrying well-heeled Australians to the venue so they didn't have to get on the shuttle bus...
There's not too much commercial traffic evident, but the GA congregates over the far side of the runway.
Good AFCAD lets them onto the grass:

This is one of my favourite threads in this forum (or any flight sim forum) - shouldn't this be pinned?

Haha I did have some difficulty resurrecting the thread, it's true.

However, moving on:
The Snowman/Creator team looks promising, with an initial offering at Napier.
So I just flew on from Hamilton for a look:

Some good photoreal textures and objects to be had here.
I found a bit of GA scattered about.
Again, not too much commercial traffc, SAAB is Big News here.
As with NZHN, this provides a much-needed airport scenery in the North Island.

Very enjoyable thread!! biggrin.gif This shows perfectly what a great experience NZ is in flightsim....I spent a good half an hour just watching the "wildlife" come and go at NZWN yesterday. I'm not normally a big AI spotter but that was just a heck of alot of fun laugh.gif

Lawrie has been a veritable dynamo of late, and the North Island is benefiting.
Come to think of it, the GNZLAP project is also a major beneficiary, where once stood maybe just a lone AFCAD, there is now a place of interest.
So, off to Kerikeri we go:

...where I notice that the only GNZLAP likely to visit here is a helicopter!
Luckily there's a trusty Beech 1900D in today (PAI+VOZ)
And so we have a little fly-off with my Sea Fury racer.

Blew that ol' commuter into the weeds.
Mayhap there is a need for a little mini-GNZLAP up North, to compliment Lawrie's fine efforts...
