Just an up to date scenery is recommended so you can get good taxi instructions, old sceneries might have different signs for the taxiways but Wellington hasn't changed much. Come along and have a go. Have a read of this if it's your first time or thinking of joining the fun!

I have the ftx Ai package as I only fly nz and Aus. For the vpilot client (to connect to vatsim) you can write (or use an existing on if it's a popular package) a model matching guide so you see the current planes. Do you have any Ai packages installed?

It's not a requirement as if the program can't find a match it will use the default Airbus. But you might change that to a 737 smile.gif

As AI, or what you fly?
You can fly as anything (except a space shuttle I think). The Aircraft code would be "B190". Of course, you don't have to fly IFR... you could request a VFR flight somewhere - just consult the AIP charts first as there are VFR departures and arrivals for Airports and in your clearance you'd get something like the 34 Sinclair Departure the charts have instructions on how to fly it and leave the control zone.

I'll see how I go, even if only I get setup for next time, how valid is ANZ Vol4 AIP for the MP.

Yeah just park up and have a listen on different channels. Vol4, not sure...see if you can compare departures for names. Probably out of date. Do you have the TPAPA arrivals into NZWN?

I do have the radials and circuit approach , you would find all this is still valid as it was effective 28 Sep 06.

Yeah but the latest one's were valid 24/07/14 smile.gif haha

The ILS DME could still be the same. 109.90 for ILS 34 and 110.30 for ILS 16?

All that is correct , when first did a set off maps back in 1998 , you would find new all NAV/NDB/ILS has not change and in fact still useable .. a few have been remove and deleted but you would find them fine to navigate into anywhere down to 200ft .

Will you be using FSX or p3d? I'll share my FTX AU AI file to get model matching with vPilot.

Update your FTX AI pack to fix an issue regarding the 737-800 and 777 showing.
https://www.fullterrain.com/freeware/ai
Redownload (even if you already have it installed) v4.2 for FSX or 4.21 or P3Dv2

In vPilot go to Settings > Model Matching > Add Custom File(s)...
Download and add this file http://1drv.ms/1xEnh7A to enable FTX AI model matching.

Hi Nick - after some 4+ years away from simming I'm finally in a position to look at getting airborne again!
I plan to do some VATNZ observing this weekend to test my VATSIM/Simpit integration. I also need to sort out the vPilot model matching.
Would you be so kind as to re-activate the link to your FTX AU AI model matching file again please? I've just installed v5.0... is it just me or is the sound from the AI aircraft far too loud?
Cheers and thanks!

Again from me thanks for the Link to the AI , still installing FSX and course P3D, one thing Greg tested with me was this JoinFS, first time in a MP were I viewed AI traffic , still in its infancy but that really livens a MP, be interesting to see AI added to that.

Hey Mat,

Here you go, I ended up updating for v5 as I needed to do it anyway.

I was going to link you to my vatsim first time ATC guide... but you probably won't need that ;)

Just to add to that:

The correct livery and type will only display if it's in the FTX pack and the callsign and aircraft type (ICAO) are correct.
If the livery they're using is not installed in the FTX pack hopefully it should show the correct type based on the filed aircraft type.

If you notice a plane not displaying the correct type please let me know the type they filed (from the flightplan), what they were displaying as, and what it should have been.
I'm already handling some common vatsim mistakes such as people using B73H instead of B738.

If anyone's interested in starting with vatsim....

Cheers Nick - you're an absolute legend! I've had a quick look through and can see the amount of work you've put in to it. We should try and sticky your .vmr somewhere on VATNZ as I bet there's plenty of others using FTX AI? I'd be happy to help keep it up-to-date so I'll let you know if I come across any aircraft discrepancies. I noticed that my plane of choice is not in there - I'm only setup to fly the CRJ700 at the momement so I'll have to flightplan that as a GLEX (which is close enough). I also plan on looking at the FTX traffic.bgl later to see how accurate the NZ schedule is. I haven't spent much time with the AI but I've not seen Emirates, Virigin or any of the Asian carriers on the ground or around NZAA yet.

I had a quick read of your VATNZ IFR tutorial - great stuff for beginners so definately check Nicks guide out if you're curious about joining us on VATNZ. Being a realworld Controller doesn't mean I'm immune to making mistakes so hopefully I don't embrass myself! Now I just have to make sure my navdata is up to date......

Thanks again mate! B-)

...Cheers Nick

Thanks Mat,

I did put a few hours into it customizing it, it's not quite as much work as it looks, there's a generator that strips out most of the information but a lot of the ICAO types were wrong. :)

Funny about the CRJ-700... there's not one included in the FTX pack but in P3D if it can't model match you it uses the default CRJ-700! But you probably can't rely on that. Plus others with bigger AI packs will have CRJ-700's. If you think the GLEX is the closest model to the CRJ I can add a custom rule to map the CRJ7 to the GLEX model. Have a look through the FTX folder pack and let me know.

I put it on the VATNZ forum last night, maybe the Ozzies would be interested in it as well.

Cheers,
Nick
