May we never forget our heroes that fought for our freedom

Of course, most people here know nothing about the German invasion of the Netherlands in 1940 but I still like you guys to see this video my friends (Jonah Snoei AKA JRSchiphol) Daan Kaasjager (he modelled the Fokker T.5 which is still WIP) and me made. It's about the failed bombing of the traffic and railway bridges at Moerdijk which connects the provinces of South-Holland and North Brabant together. It was a strategic target because the Germans where dropped on the southern side (in North Brabant) and wanted to make their way up to South-Holland. The province of where both Rotterdam and The Hague (city where the parlement and the Royal Family were located). So the bridges where a critical piece of infrastructure that would slow down the German forces significantly if it were destroyed. Since the bridges were both 1km long, the Germans wouldn't be able to wade through the water.

Even though the equipment of the Dutch Air force was no match against the modern fleet of the Luftwaffe, the brave crew still followed the order to destroy the bridges. Even though everybody knew it was a suicide mission. The Fokker T.5 bomber had two 300kg bombs on board to destroy the bridges, sadly the first one missed the target and fell into the water. The second bomb did hit the target but it didn't detonate making the raid a huge failure. To make matters worse, the Luftwaffe responded and send 8 Messerschmitt BF109s to destroy the T.5 bomber and the two Fokker G.1 heavy fighters that escorted the T.5.

This video was made for the memorial ceremony on the 13th of May 2015, exactly 75 years after the failed mission, which was held in De Grote Kerk (The Big Church) in the city of Dordrecht, South-Holland, The Netherlands. Many were touched by the video and we got a lot of compliments of everybody who was attending the ceremony, so I hope you liked the video too!

Since the crew where 23 to 27 years old, I think this quote is very appropriate for this video:

“Older men declare war. But it is youth that must fight and die.”
― Herbert Hoover
