I agree totally Toprob. Upgrading in a year or so when the technology has been around a while is mighty sensible.I guess it's like when the first video recorders came out and they were $3,000!. It wasn't that long before they were half that.(now they're a couple of hundred!) New cars are the same. They say an 18 mth old car is the best value for money. Also I will let the young and the wealthy rush into it and find all the problems, and just what is what and report it to us in the forums. Microsoft has finally released the minimum specs required to run FSX but no...

We have a winner! This was a very tough decision as you guys have submitted some very high quality shots and there have been several strong contenders. But in the end there can only be one winner. And the winner is ... Jarn ! Below are his fantastic shots. With the 20m mesh and topo, his shots should become pure magic. I hope everyone enjoyed the competition. There sure will be similar competitions in the future. Cheers, Christian

To be honest, pretty much all developers I'm in contact with at the moment don't really have an answer to this question. You've seen the FSX demo and you can draw your own conclusions from it. We still have to see if FSX can actually run well on average systems, I wouldn't be surprised if a good number of users prefer their current FS2004 setup. But until FSX is released no one has any idea what market share it will grab. To make things worse, a number of scenery elements have changed considerably in FSX, so it won't work to make scenery for FSX, apply a few changes and...

Start the sim and create (not load previous) a Cessna at Seattle. Fly, save, and exit. Yes, a good test is to see if you can load the sim from an existing flight. If so, it's your default flight which is damaged. This is quite common, I remember Ian Warren pointing this fix out to me when I had this trouble.

Hi Rick The beaches are a bit of a problem in FS9 since they don't match the water and you can get ugly water holes due to a bug in FS9, so I avoided the issue. There are other reasons why I never tackled the problem to do with the data I'm using. In the end it was a question of delaying the topo for a few months or release it to the public. FSX may be a different story. I hope MS fixed their bug which would be one big step towards coastlines in FSX. Christian

Hi Charl This looks great. The only really important step is that the landclass is below any photoreal scenery (e.g. RealNZ). The landclass is fine in the mesh directory. Nothing new for a while but that's going to change soon :) Cheers, Christian
