Scotty , take your screen but pressing the default 'v' key for your screen , it will do it for you with out placing any text or borders , that is all that's needed or required . Welcome to the screencomp, Scotty! Always good to see new blood You'll need to check uncle Doug's instructions. Cropping is OK. The most important thing IMHO is to treat it as a screen PIC contest, rather than a BANNER competition. ie. Don't worry too much about the shape/aspect ratio of the pic. Doug can usually do wonders to make the pic fit the banner shape. Don't forget to keep your hi-res original (also useful if I need to create a Splash Pic from it). -------------------- |

As always, great shots folks! This is my first ever screenshot competition entry - please don't be too harsh! I have just read the rules and it says no borders or text on the image except this is the only one I have an I don't currently have any editiing software to remove them ScottyB Hi Scotty from the No txt or borders on the image. Please keep a high resolution version saved on your computer that can be cropped to fit the banner; the admin may request it from you at the end of the month to convert into a site banner! If you want to enter that image you will need to do an edit and re crop it to take out all the txt and border. You have the software to add the txt and border you should be able to use it to take the txt and border off again. -------------------- |

Your shot doesn't meet the minimum width requirements, which is the biggest issue. The rule regarding borders is simply to keep the image big enough to build a banner -- in your case, the image is 1023 px wide, which is only 1 pixel short, no big deal, but the border would need to be cropped off for a banner, so the usable width is a lot less. The 'no text' rule isn't so much of a deal-breaker, some classic shots from past comps wouldn't work without a caption, it's just that the placement of the text can't interfere with the banner. In your case, it would just be cropped off. The rule against borders wouldn't be needed if people understood that the border can't be included in the banner, otherwise you'll end up with the top and bottom cropped off, and just dark lines down each side -- not a good look to head the forum for a month. If someone really, really needed to include a border to preserve their artistic integrity Since this complicated things a lot, there's just one simple rule regarding borders -- don't use them. If this is truly the only version of this image you have, then you should pick another. EDIT -- and Doug's decision is in. |
