Planning underway to replace Hercules aircraft
NewstalkZB | 12:45pm Mon 07 May 2012

Planning has begun to replace an integral part of the Air Force's capabilities.

A parliamentary report reveals the Air Force's five C-130 Hercules aircraft will need to be replaced in about eight years time.

The report says planning for the replacement process has already begun with two main options being considered.

Either the Hercules will be replaced by similar aircraft, or by aircraft that offer different capabilities.

................................................................................
.................................................................................
....................
................................................................................
.................................................................................
....................

Ok .. replace a C-130 with a C130 .. For sure a AM-400 is outta the question as with a C-17 .. the new NH's go in with a squeeze .. in about eight years time .. maybe an expanded fuselage C-130 is on the table , very possible , brand new C-130NQs will fit the bill , already trying the 8 blade fuel/sound saver also increased lifting capable .. then to keep maintainace cheap and to service .. what else is out there to replace .

Hi guys,

If you could take the time to complete this survey, it would be greatly appreciated!! Feel free to pm me your answers, or if you wish, just post on here (Note- if this is against any forum rules or in the wrong place mods, please feel free to set me straight

Senior Social Science Inquiry Survey- Joe Mathieson

My name is Joe Mathieson, and for my Year 13 Senior Social Science Inquiry, worth six credits at Level 3, I am studying the changing face of Aviation Security In New Zealand, and the issues and challenges faced by it. Here, I would like to ask you a few questions regarding your opinion on this topic. If you could answer these few questions on the topic, I would greatly appreciate it!! Note- Full body scanners are effectively X-Ray machines that find objects hidden under peoples clothes.

Firstly;

What is your opinion on the change of security measures in New Zealand?

Why do you think this?

How do you feel about the installation of trial full body scanners* at Auckland Airport?

Why?

Would you prefer a physical body search (pat down search) to a body scan?

Have you ever felt unsafe whilst on a commercial flight, with regards to security?

Have issues such as 9/11 and other hijackings of aircraft in NZ and the world affected your confidence in air travel in New Zealand and overseas?

How do you think security in New Zealand airports could be improved? For example, do you think that security at smaller regional airports could be enhanced?

Secondly, a few questions on the biosecurity risk faced by the New Zealand agrarian sector;

Is your employment based around agriculture? (Optional)

Do you think that the risk posed to New Zealand by other countries biosecurity issues is enough to warrant more stringent measures by Customs/MAF?

Did you know a $400 dollar fine is imposed by Customs officials if any traveller arriving in New Zealand attempts to bring incorrectly or undeclared food items into New Zealand, with or without knowing the laws that surround it?

Do you think $400 dollars is enough?

How do you think Biosecurity measures could be enhanced?

Third, what do you think of the security in terms of illegal substances in New Zealand?

Do you think that drug detection by Border Agencies New Zealand is satisfactory?

Why is this?

Did you know that random explosives tests can be conducted on any person(s) leaving the country?

Do you think this is an effective method of detection?

Why is this?

I, give permission for Joe Mathieson to use my feedback from this survey in his Senior Social Science Inquiry.

Yes, I don’t mind if my name is used / No, I don’t want my name to be used.

Thankyou!!

What is the most cost effective way to get PPL ?

Hello all:)

As part of my interest and passion for aviation, I would like to get my PPL just to be able to fly for pleasure.

I am living in Wellington and aware of one aviation club to do my PPL, but in the same time I have limited available fund and possibly going to take me a while to be able to have the 50 hours as the minimum requirement (financial constraints)

At first, I will go to do my medical test so I know that is all done and sorted.

This might sound like a newbie question or out of the context for this forum, But I am wondering if anyone has ideas on how to reduce the costs of getting PPL? And what resources and materials (Books, DVDs or online) beside from the prescribed textbooks are helpful ?

Any support and advice is highly appreciated

Cheers!
